5 cup Water |
3⁄4 cup Sugar |
2 cup Rolled oats |
1⁄2 cup Evaporated milk |
Place water and oats in a saucepan on high heat and stir well. Bring to a boil then lower heat to medium-low. Don't leave the pot on high unattended because oatmeal will boil over very quickly! Simmer about 5 minutes stirring often. Add milk and sugar and lower heat to low stirring well. Cook covered another 5-10 minutes until thickened, stirring often. Serve plain or with a little cinnamon sprinkled on top or with diced fresh fruit on top.Cold oatmeal makes a most interesting sandwich. Just put a thick layer of cold oatmeal between 2 slices of bread for a quick sandwich the kids (and you!) will enjoy.
